Officer on stakeout bit by pit bull
NEW ORLEANS -- Police shot and killed a pit bull in Treme after it bit an officer during a stakeout, a New Orleans Police Department spokesman said.
The name of the officer wasn't released. She is part of a team of highly qualified officers that does surveillance and other investigative work.
Officer Garry Flot said the officer suffered a leg wound that required stitches. He said she took three sick days following Wednesday's incident and would work limited duty when she returns.
She and another officer shot and killed the dog after it lunged and bit the officer when she got out of a vehicle, Flot said.
Another spokesman said no complaints had been filed in the incident.
